Wetlands

Rauscher Farm has varied wetland areas including woodland streams and marshes adjacent to grasslands, hilly pastures, and Clamshell Pond. These areas support wetland vegetation such as cattails, wetland grasses, and sedges. Standing trees in some areas that were not formerly wet have died and become snags that offer desirable habitat for insects and birds.

Rauscher Farm wetlands support a wide variety of wildlife species, as seen in videos and photographs captured by visitors and our wildlife cameras. These include raccoons, otters, turtles, wood ducks and mallards, resident and migrating birds, salamanders, frogs, and many others.

The Clinton Conservation commission and supervised volunteers monitor and manage Rauscher Farm wetlands to comply with the Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act.
